Waterfalls, part 2

Day 12. Saturday, May 2.

View Harvey's Route in a larger map

We quickly packed the RV and set out on our way in the morning as we had promised ourselves brunch at the Multnomah Falls Lodge. It was a rainy morning so views of the falls from the dining room were poor, but after eating we set out for a closer look.

The next stop was Horsetail Falls a couple miles up the road. This was a large, but shorter fall right by the road.

The rain let up a bit for us to walk a steep half-mile trail to the upper porting of the falls, called Ponytail Falls. This was really cool as the rocks at the base of the falls had been cut so much by the water that the trail goes completely under the falls for some great views.

Right as we got to the road, the skies opened back up and we had to dash back to Harvey for shelter. While in the cabin, we heard a large thunder crash and quickly abandoned our plans to travel further up the Colombia River to see Mt. Hood, which had been covered in clouds all morning anyway. We decided to head to our next campground, which meant...

We arrived at Battle Ground Lake State Park around dusk and took a small walk to the lake. We didn't get any photos, but it was described to us as being a small version of Crater Lake, probably because it's round and full of water. That's probably where the similarities stop.

We planned for another walk the next morning to get some pictures, but that didn't happen...
